Daholl's Music Ensemble specialise in the performance of Kurdish and Middle Eastern music, both traditional, contemporary and original.
Our ensemble is made up of musicians playing a variety of traditional instruments:
The Daholl is a traditional Kurdish double headed drum which is played with a stick. It is used for wedding parties and celebrations
The Zorna is a traditional double reeded wind instrument which is similar to the oboe. It is also used in wedding and traditional music. It is often accompanied by the daholl.
The Saz is a long necked lute which is used across the Middle East. It is particualry used to accompany folk song.
The Santur is a zither with a very distinctive and delicate sound. It is used across the Middle East to accompany classical, traditional and dance music.
The Daff is a skin frame drum which is lined with rings giving it an additonal responance. It is struck by hand and is used to accompany both traditional and religious songs.
The zarb is a traditional goblet shaped percussion instrument which is used for all types of music, especially traditonal music.
The Darbuka is an Arabic percussion instrument which is used a lot in Eqyptian music.
